About
Brian Walton is a Juilliard-trained multi-instrumentalist, vocalist, award-winning composer, veteran, and music producer whose career spans nearly five decades across studio, stage, and screen. Beginning his career in 1980 as an apprentice under Grammy-winning producer Phil Ramone at A&R Recording, Walton quickly established himself as a versatile force in the industry, contributing to major recordings, global commercial campaigns, and earning over 50 gold and platinum album credits for artists such as Steely Dan, Stevie Nicks, and 38 Special. Over his expansive career, he has toured with country and rock icons, scored over 200 film and television projects—including cult classics like Donnie Darko and Napoleon Dynamite—and served as Associate Music Director at The Walt Disney Company. Today, Walton resides in Challis, Idaho, where he leads Musty Dungeon Studios as a premier production partner for major Hollywood studios while remaining an active advocate for veterans’ causes through organizations like the American Legion, VFW, and DAV.
Musty Dungeon Studios: History, Evolution, and Film/TV Legacy
The Founding and Evolution of Musty Dungeon Studios
Early Beginnings: Blue Rhino Records Era
Before the formal establishment of Musty Dungeon Studios, Brian Walton’s independent recordings were originally released under Blue Rhino Records (distributed through Sony Records). Blue Rhino Records served as the launching pad for Walton’s solo recording career, most notably hosting the 1993 distribution of his breakout solo album, Made in the Shade. The album spawned three Top-10 Billboard country chart hits and kicked off nationwide and European USO concert tours.
Throughout the 1990s and 2000s, this early label banner serviced Walton’s solo releases and live anthologies, including Made in the Shade Live! (2001/2007). During this time, Walton operated out of personal home studios—spanning locations from Darmstadt, Germany, to Camarillo, California, and Littleton, Colorado—where he engineered tracks, licensed commercial jingles, and produced scores for television and independent films.
Transition to Musty Dungeon Studios (Challis, Idaho)
Following his move to the high-desert mountains of Challis, Idaho, Walton unified his recording facilities under the name Musty Dungeon Studios. By 2016, the studio was fully operational and serving as the focal point for his personal releases, including the chart-topping collection Still Got My Mojo, the album What the Hell (2016), and popular singles such as In My Little Town (2021) and Cowgirl Thang (2022).
Transformation into an Industry Production Powerhouse (2022–Present)
In 2022, after negotiating the full release and return rights of his entire multi-decade music catalog, Walton officially registered and structured Musty Dungeon Studios as an independent record label and production service house.
Initially designed to centralize and service his catalog of over 450 published works, the studio underwent a massive expansion following Walton’s tenure at The Walt Disney Company (2022–2024). Leveraging his high-level Hollywood contacts and bringing on a dedicated team of audio engineers, composers, and sound designers, Walton transformed Musty Dungeon Studios into an elite post-production and scoring facility.
Today, Musty Dungeon Studios stands as one of the film industry’s premier production service providers. The studio regularly services major production accounts and delivers soundtrack engineering, custom scoring, and music licensing for industry giants including Netflix, Warner Bros., and Lionsgate.
Film and Television Legacy
Across its iterations, Walton’s studio operations have contributed audio engineering, original compositions, and music direction to major theatrical releases, television series, and documentaries.
